MALEVOLENCE – ANTITHETICAL (Review by Varg The Mighty)

Today’s review is of Portuguese Extreme Metal band Malevolence’s 2013 album Antithetical, celebrating its upcoming vinyl release.

This album displays a unique mix of numerous elements of different subgenres, especially Technical Death Metal, Blackened Death Metal and Gothic Doom Metal, all neatly packed together with tints of Progressive Metal and even an Avant-Garde feeling.

Thanks to the performance of well-known musicians of Moonspell or Megadeth fame, this concept has been finely created in a way that shrouds everything in a kind of chaotic darkness, perhaps comparable to Schammasch though in its own style. Rarely has a mix of virtually all Extreme Metal been so well crafted. My personal highlights are “Cult Of The Everlasting” and “Mechanisms Of Destructive Behaviour”.

I recommend this album to fans of any sort of Extreme Metal that leans towards darkened Avat-Garde Metal territories. My rating is of 9,5/10.
