Today’s review is of Spanish Death Metal band Canker’s album “Exquisite Tenderness”, celebrating its re-issue this year.
This second release had the band diving into a more technical and even progressive side, though still keeping intact their clear identity of 90s Death Metal act.
While the essence of OSDM is there, these compositions have clear Cynic or Atheist influences that create different atmospheres of complete virtuosity, albeit sometimes at the cost of some catchiness. Nonetheless, this release includes decent songs that may appeal to fans of pure Death Metal and Progressive Death Metal alike (even though their treading through the fine line which separates the subgenre may not be of purists of any side’s liking), such as “Astral Voyage” or “Dream Killer”.
I recommend this album to fans of Progressive Death Metal and OSDM. My rating is of 8,5/10.
