Today’s review is of Spanish Folk Metal band Steignyr’s upcoming new album, out on July 23rd.
This album delivers classic Folk Metal in the likes of Cruachan, although with some unnecessary experimentation that damages the result. While the music is decent (though not outstanding) and in the instrumental “Aftermath” is pretty enjoyable, the vocal performances are excessive and sometimes seemingly out of tune with the instrumentation. Perhaps also with a heavier use of female vocals and an abandonment of the unfruitful synchrony of two vocal styles the songs would be better.
Nonetheless, the full-length is quite dynamic, with calmed songs that almost dwell in Folk Rock with a good use of unusual instruments mixed decently with other tracks that mindlessly dive into Extreme Metal, sometimes better than other times. While the whole album may not appeal to anyone who isn’t a diehard fan of the genre, some tracks are worthy of being highlighted and are good. Some of these songs may be “Mendo” or “Immortal Family”.
I recommend this album to fans of Folk Metal. My rating is of 7/10.
