Today’s review is of Norwegian Black Metal band Selvmord’s album “Nyttarsny/ Vintermorgen”.
These two almost 20-minute tracks take pure, cold and absolutely raw Black Metal to an innovatively elaborate extent while never abandoning the simplicity on which the subgenre dwells. This complexity is achieved with the implementation of keyboards that sometimes even take over to create passages of Dark Ambient between the tremolo picked riffs and distortion (kind of like Vinterriket).
With a constant repetition of melodies crafted in a way that isn’t too annoying but that instead creates a mesmerising and wretched atmosphere, this release may only be enjoyed by fans of really pure Black Metal. Nonetheless, if you enjoy the genre, you should check this out, and after every play it gets pretty better.
I recommend this album to fans of Raw Black Metal and Ambient Black Metal. My rating is of 8,5/10.
