Today’s review is of Italian Black Metal band Frozen Fortress’ debut album.
This release catches absolutely all the rawness and linear obscurity of 90s Black Metal at its most occult and underground, adding in it some touches of Italian Black Metal in the likes of a much more distorted version of Ars Manifestia. Notably, the release also includes some intros, outros and interludes of Dark Ambient that create a fine symbiosis with the heavier parts, never excluding any hint of darkness no matter how small it may be.
This release manages to transmit the same feeling as the most primitive kind of Black Metal without omitting other negative atmospheres that are also achieved here through the use of acoustic guitars, as in “Lost In Pure Melancholic”. My personal highlights are “Life Has Gone” and “Sorrowful Chains Of Evil”. If you enjoy occult and old-school demos look no further.
I recommend this album to fans of Raw Black Metal and Ambient Black Metal. My rating is of 9/10.
