Today’s review is of Singaporean Melodic Death Metal band Assault’s upcoming new album, out on June 30th.
This album really reminds of At The Gates in a way, since despite the lesser similarities they also tend towards a darker and slightly symphonic soundscape instead of the usual display of hollow virtuosity that most albums of this subgenre usually include.
As a result, the songs are really powerful and deliver a decent amount of violence combined with higher sonorities and concepts and have been crafted in a way that may be appealing to metalheads that don’t quite dig in to Melodeath but like elaborate Extreme Metal nonetheless. My personal highlights are “Age Of Enlightenment” and “Minvera”, but the whole release is pretty solid. Filled with hard-hitting riffs and energic compositions, this release is surely a Melodic Death Metal highlight of the year.
I recommend this album to fans of Melodic Death Metal. My rating is of 9/10.
