Today’s review is of Canadian Grindcore band Violent Opposition’s album “Transcendent”.
This is definitely not a common Grindcore release. Instead, it sounds perhaps like a hypothetical side project of members of The Toy Dolls, Macabre and Atheist based on this genre. This is due to the sheer amount of technique they have used to create demented music with a psychotic humorous touch.
The clearest influence is Macabre, for the album surprisingly approaches pretty well their unique style, but on some tracks they also feel free to wander more into Hardcore, Punk, Technical Death Metal, even more Avant-Garde Metal and perhaps even Jazz. If you want something extreme, crazy and unpredictable to satiate your need for violence and social critique look no further.
I recommend this album to fans of Grindcore, Technical Death Metal and Avant-Garde Metal. My rating is of 8,5/10.
