Today’s review is of Belgian Black Doom Metal band Rituals Of The Dead Hand’s new album.
On this album, they have taken a much more modern and atmospheric approach, including even some influences of Sludge. On some parts it seems like a really slow and Doom version of Regarde Les Hommes Tomber, while in other parts it sounds like an oppressive version of Mayhem, with hard hitting riffs and wretched sonorities.
The songs are very immersive, aided mostly by a constant atmosphere of total darkness that has been crafted around them. Mostly, the album reminds of French Black Metal bands, although perhaps in a more low-tuned and distorted way. While the whole album is really good, my personal highlight is “Sulphur”.
I recommend this album to fans of Black Metal, Black Doom Metal, Blackened Sludge Metal and Atmospheric Black M
etal. My rating is of 9,5/10.
