Magik is the project that arises from the union of two musicians with extensive experience: the guitarist and producer Manolo Arias (Ñu, Niagara, Atlas, Arias - Barón Rojo, Iguana Tango, etc.) and the British vocalist Giles Keith Ramírez (HOT, Ghost, Reach). Although they have known each other for almost 30 years, to date, the opportunity to collaborate together had not arisen.

 

From this union was born the idea of ​​publishing a cover per month, "12 months, 12 versions", under the title of "Covers In Isolation". In this way they will offer us their particular vision of classics from the 60s and 70s, always under their personal prism, adapting it to their musical criteria.

 

The idea arises after the quarantine period, where Giles had been sharing some versions through RRSS. Precisely for that reason, the global pandemic, Arias had been forced to delay his debut film "I'm Not For Anyone" and he thought it was time to join forces under this series of classics that will be released month by month.

The Eagles' selection of this theme, in Giles's words, is because “since I heard“ Hotel California ”for the first time on the radio, the admiration for the Eagles was inevitable. It was for me one of the few records of the moment in which all the songs looked great. I loved Don Henley's voice, even more than Glenn Frey's, and over the years, it hasn't stopped being one of my favorite singers, nor one of my essential records. From this album we decided to give credit to “Victim Of Love”, a song that Manolo has wonderfully arranged with rock touches but respecting the legacy of this great band.

 

The participation of Paul Shortino (Rough Cutt, Quiet Riot, King Kobra) represents a great challenge for MAGIK, as well as an extraordinary attraction for our project. I discovered Paul Shortino in the 80s, after buying his first album with Rough Cutt "Wants You!", And his voice still sounds just as powerful. The curriculum of bands in which he has formed is unbeatable and his musical career is still at its peak. When MAGIK proposed to join Shortino in “Victim Of Love”, we didn't hesitate for a second to put him on board MAGIK, including him in our “Covers In Isolation” project. The result speaks for itself and we are very proud to present our next single “Victim of Love” with the participation of Paul Shortino. "

 

"Victim of Love" was one of the songs featured on Eagles' fifth album, the popular "Hotel California" released in 1976 and first with guitarist Joe Walsh. It has been certified with 26 Platinum Records in the US, selling more than 32 million copies worldwide. It is considered one of the best albums of all time.
