Maryland stoner metal/sludge powerhouse ASTHMA CASTLE — featuring drummer Adam Jarvis (Pig Destroyer, Misery Index, Scour), guitarists Justin Ethem (touring rhythm guitarist for Integrity) and Cameron Smith (Passage Between, Crawler), vocalist Zach Westphal (ex-J. Roddy Walston And The Business), and bassist Jeff Davis (Damnation Audio bass effects founder) — is pleased to unveil its latest slab of ultra-heavy, stoner metal bliss with “Chirality.”
Recorded by Justin Day at New Noise Recording, the single was initially included on the No Stagediving Fundraiser Compilation for the iconic Baltimore music club, the Ottobar. With cover art by Lydia Ethem, “Chirality” now sees its official digital-only, self-release today, May 7th.
Issues the band of the track, “It was a true honor to be part of the Ottobar compilation fundraiser. Our roots run deep with them and can't wait to get back to hanging out and playing shows there. 'Chirality' came together quickly, and we had a great time recording it at New Noise Recording here in Baltimore. We've stepped up our game on several fronts, but it's still unmistakably ASTHMA CASTLE. We hope you enjoy it.”

The release of “Chirality” follows ASTHMA CASTLE’s critically lauded Mount Crushmore debut, released in 2019 via Hellmistress Records. The band did a short run of dates and various appearances between members’ individually busy schedules in support of the release, sharing stages with the likes of Pig Destroyer, Misery Index, Scour, and Integrity as well as fostering the Damnation Audio Bass Effects brand. ASTHMA CASTLE was slated to appear at the 2020 edition of Maryland Deathfest before the pandemic and subsequent lockdowns halted the world in its tracks. “Chirality” serves as a small taste of what's to come from ASTHMA CASTLE as they work on their sophomore release, with details to be unveiled in the months to come.
“Sure, the giant-sized, fuzzed out riffs imply the album should come with rolling papers in the liner notes, but the frenetic drumming and technical guitar licks give the whole thing an amped up vibe, like those rolling papers should be laced with speed. Think Pepper-era Corrosion Of Conformity but twice as fast, or Mastodon’s Remission with more major key ditties…” — MetalSucks
“ASTHMA CASTLE proffers some of the chunkiest southern fried stoner fare around.” — New Noise Magazine
“Completely bombastic, utterly mountainous, and crazy good fun, Mount Crushmore is a record that doesn’t just blow off the cobwebs, but pretty much demolishes everything in its path.” — Distorted Sound
“…a nasty, low-registered, swingy, cannonball of rage, and it’s the most fun my neck has had in a while.” — Sputnik Music
“Holy damn on a stick, are these riffs gigantic.” — Heavy Blog Is Heavy
“…an experience which leaves the listener violated yet purged, every personal demon not exorcised but impaled on a pike.” – Ghost Cult
