SPEAKEASY STREETS - Back Alley Beats ( New York/USA)

 Speakeasy Streets is an eclectic mix of classic and new sounds,
from Brooklyn, New York. The band bring the swing and the gypsy
Jazz from the first half of the 20th century to reformulate and mix it with
Hip Hop (and with a punk twist). In a very correct way, they define themselves with the term “Gyp-Hop”.
The band was formed in early 2016. Upon being created in one of the cities
most diverse in the world, such as New York, inevitably
produced a fruitful multicultural mix. On Speakeasy Streets
you will find musicians from France, Chile, Israel, South Africa and, of course,
from New York. This mix of cultures is reflected in their music and makes
sounds so varied agglutinate, that when joined they cause a fusion
really interesting.
'Back Alley Beats' is their first album, in which they embrace this innovation
in music, contributed by the varied backgrounds of the musicians who
make up the band. Throughout the album, influences can be seen
from Al Jolson and Django Reinhardt to Run DMC or Beastie Boys.
"We have a goal and it is to make you feel alive," says the double bass player and
singer Yoni Benshlomo. "We take popular elements of music
from the past because that worked. That's what makes people get up
and express oneself, and that's the reason we play ”.
Guest vocalists, such as Pdrito de Gogol Bordello and the actor from
Broadway, Grammy Award winner Etai Benson, increase ya
in itself eclectic musical proposal, from the members of different
countries and continents. "Our music tells a story," says the MC of
the band, Repitwa. “We are here to show that all people are
important and that all the people who came before us have
imported. That is why you have to be open to new sounds. Some
They may be very new to us, but when they are put into
context, they make us understand, feel and grow. You have to keep the
living culture "
