METALIUM BASSIST/LARS RATZ DIES IN ULTRALIGHT CRASH IN MALLORCA,SPAIN

On the morning of yesterday, April 18, the former bassist and founder of Metalium, Lars Ratz, died in an ultralight accident in Mallorca, Spain. A We Publish News report says his ultralight crashed in the town of Vilafranca, near the El Cruce restaurant. Ratz suffered multiple injuries and was reportedly killed at the scene. The Civil Guard investigates the cause of the accident.

Metalium was released by Ratz in 1999 and disbanded in 2011. They recorded eight studio albums at that time. Former band members include guitarist Chris Caffery (Savatage, Trans-Siberian Orchestra), vocalist Henning Basse (Brainstorm, Sons Of Seasons), guitarist Jack Frost (Seven Witches), drummer Mike Terrana (Tarja, Rage, Yngwie Malmsteen) and drummer Michael Ehré. (Gamma Ray, The Unit).

Caffery posted the following tribute to Ratz on social media:

"One of the many discussions I had over the past year involved meetings and new records from bands I hadn't recorded with in years. Everyone knows the obvious from the posts that have been floating around. And Lars Ratz about the possibility of a new record. Metalium and a festival tour. In fact, I started writing songs with this reunion in mind. I'm surprised and saddened to have received the very sad news that Lars Ratz died today in a small plane crash.

He has left us a great musician and a great person.
