Wretch is the debut full-length from British Columbia’s Anti-God Hand, a black metal project that boasts technicality, atmosphere, and curiosity in addition to precise, meticulous songwriting. Their first EP, Endless Excavated Earth showcased two long-form bangers featuring riffs upon riffs in an explosive, but classic black metal formula. Wretch changes things up, adding elements from less abrasive genres while also demonstrating the guitarist’s impressive chops. Songs like “Snowblade” nod to shoegaze and prog with cascading guitar and lithe tremolo, while others like “Moss Golem” feature lush finger-picking and lead single “Zero-Harm Environment” brandishes death metal flourish.
Wretch is out 6.4.21 and was mastered by Andrew Weathers. Art was done by Sebastian Ruslan.
