Today’s review is of Italian Death Doom Metal band Tenebro’s second demo.
These promising tracks display Death Metal at its darkest, with cavernous atmospheres and crushing slowness combined with faster common Death Metal bits. This mix reminds of early Obituary, Incantation or Asphyx.
The composition is quite old-school, and the low quality adds some more to the occult soundscapes (especially when they add the screams of anguish and delirium in intros as on “Il Lamento Dei Malalti”). On some songs the slowness really provokes the intended tedium to the listener, while other tracks tend to a more conventional sort of Death Metal, giving the demo some dynamism that is much appreciated. This release shows a band with potential that will surely drag us further down into the abyss on future albums.
I recommend this to fans of Death Metal and Death Doom Metal. My rating is of 8,5/10.
