Today’s review is of American Technical Thrash Death Metal band Obsolete’s new album, out on April 19th.
This album combines the prowess and curious atmosphere of Technical Death Metal bands like Death or Atheist with the sharper approach of Thrash Metal acts like Annihilator, producing a combination of technique and straight-forwardness that seems quite enjoyable even if you don’t usual listen to complex subgenres.
Especially the vocal performance gives the release an old-school feeling that reminds of early Technical Death Metal, with the bonus aggressive Thrash component added by the guitars. My highlights are “Still” and “The Fog”, although other tracks also have their share of memorable parts.
I recommend this album to fans of Technical Death Metal and Thrash Death Metal. My rating is of 8,5/10.
