Hard to believe that we are already over two months into 2021! And … in those two months the band have been hard at work. They have already developed a great working relationship with Francesco who is showing that he understands what makes a great Tygers tune. Writing for the next album is well underway and demos of proposed tracks have already been recorded.
Here is brief run through of what’s happening and something that will become a feature of the next 5 newsletters - ‘My Life in Music’. This month it features Mr Jack Meille.
New Record Deal The band have signed a new record deal with Mighty Music with whom they have made their last two albums. Robb commented: ‘I have had record deals with one of the biggest companies in the world and some of the smallest ones but by far the best record company I have ever signed to is Mighty Music. We have a fantastic working relationship and we hope to make many more records with them’.
Majors and Minors The new Tygers compilation ‘Majors and Minors’ is released on the 28th of May. Formats are CD, black vinyl and very limited edition 180 gram vinyl in three colours (grey, white and yellow swirl). Tracks are taken from Animal Instinct, Ambush, 2016 and Ritual, together with a couple of ‘special’ additions. Pre-order from the official bandshop targetshop.dk/tygers-of-pan-tang or your local record pusher.
New Single Track titles for the 3 track vinyl single are:- - A New Heartbeat
- Red Mist
- Killers (remake of the Wildcat track)
So, if you want to join the fun and have a crack at designing the front sleeve send your design to: tygerssingle@yahoo.com All you need to remember that it must be size of a 12” album sleeve or, if smaller, in proportion to that. There are no rules on what should and shouldn’t be on the cover. But … don’t include the track title or the band’s name. We will do that, if necessary, afterwards. The winning design will get your name on the cover, a pack of Tygers merch, a special Facebook/Instagram post, a couple of free tickets to a gig of your choice plus a signed copy of the single. Entries must be received by the last day in April. Exact release date isn’t set but it will most likely be late Summer. Touring The band are currently cancelling/booking gigs on a daily basis. The most recent set of gigs to be booked are posted on Facebook. We have a very special gig with our friends Diamond Head and Rock Goddess at KK’s Steel Mill in Wolverhampton – so look out for that one.
My Life in Music – Jack Meille. The first record I bought was : Queen, “A Night at The Opera” December 1976 The last record I listened to was: The Rolling Stones “Goat's Head Soup” deluxe edition, the CD containing unreleased songs, such as “Scarlet” with Jimmy Page guesting on lead guitar Favourite single: All time favorite single? This year single? It's a tough one. This year single would be “Box in My Head” by BOC; today as my All Times favourite single I would go for “Slow Ride” from Foghat Favourite album: I got a list of 5, so if I have to pick one will be “Who's Next” by The Who. My Saturday night music is: laid back Americana, something like the Jayhawks or Tedeschi Trucks Band... My Sunday morning music is: I need some good ol' r'n'r to wake up on Sunday, so it will be something like AC/DC Vinyl, CD or MP3?: CD Album I wouldn’t part with: King Crimson “In the Court of the Crimson King” My cult special: Kiss The record that you might not think I would listen to is: Elvis Costello and Burt Bacharach, “Painted From Memory” The record that changed my life was: Pink Floyd “The Dark Side of The Moon” My music on the tour bus is: I got my own playlist on Spotify I made for a club in Florence, “Nofbynight – Jack Meille”, go and check it out! First Tygers gig: January 2005, Butlins The band that inspired me to make music is: Kiss Favourite guitar player: Jimmy Page Favourite bass player: Boz Burrell Favourite singer: Robert Plant Favourite drummer: Cozy Powell First gig I went to: The first rock gig was Def Leppard in 1983 The best gig I have ever been to is: Led Zeppelin O2 arena 2007, a dream come true The gig I would like to watch again: Neil Young, every gig is a special one Worst gig ever: not one that I remember, I'm a lucky guy Gig that exceeded expectations: Steven Wilson in Florence in 2016. I went expecting to be bored and I was blown away for the almost three hours set. I never missed his gigs since then. The musician I respect most is: Robert Plant, a true inspiration for me, always Musician I would bring back to life: Tom Petty Favourite Tygers gig: Azkena Rock Festival, for many reasons: our performance, hanging out with Cheap Tricks in the backstage area and getting to watch John Fogerty and King's X on the same day of our show. My all time favourite Tygers track is: “Gangland” from the Classic era, and “Only the Brave” since I joined the band. Jack’s current ‘top ten’ albums in no particular order.
