HOWLING – THE AESTHETICS OF ROT (Review by Varg The Mighty )

Today’s review is of American Black Metal band Howling’s EP “The Aesthetics Of Rot”.

This release starts with a dark atmospheric intro that is soon substituted by a most aggressive frontal assault of distortion with “Repugnant Cauldron Of Darkness”. Once the dust has settled, the song slows down a little, substituting part of the violence for more darkness.

This half-paced concept that so fruitful and wretched results delivers within Black Metal also works pretty well with this band. Nonetheless, this album is not always slow-paced, instead combining that with extremely fast riffs in the style of Marduk or Immortal (take for instance the mayhem of “A Descent Into Madness And Fervor”). The vocal performance also fits perfect with this sonic chaos, adding just the final touch to make the songs sound well.

I recommend this album to fans of Black Metal and Black Death Metal. My rating is of 8,5/10.
