HAPPY BIRTHDAY BIFF by Javier Barba Vallejo

Today is the birthday of Peter "Biff" Byford, singer and tireless warrior soul of the fireproof Saxon.
70 chestnuts already fall to the friend and an example to follow in life. In a childhood that did not have anything easy with the premature death of his mother and a subsequent mutilation by work accident of his father, in a rural town of Yorkshire (England) mainly dedicated to mining and fishing.
He took refuge in his friends and with them he turned to music with a brutal determination that has characterized him to this day, back in the 70s he was with his inseparable friend and guitarist until today in Saxon and The Cards Paul Quinn in a group called Coast, until in '76 they joined Graham Oliver and Steve Dawson to form the Son Of A Bitch in which Pete Gill would later enter, pulling performances by baretos in the middle of the British Punk wave.
Already in 79 they changed their name to Saxon, they recorded their first LP and thanks to their subsequent albums with producer Pete Hinton which include several concept hymns of Heavy Metal, they launched into a successful career at the beginning until the mid-80s to falling into ups and downs due to record labels, change of musical style towards a more commercial sound, changes from the original line up etc ... although they always maintained a high level with internationally unknown musicians at that time such as Paul "Fasker" Jhonson or Nigel Durham
, in which Biff keeps "sticking out his chest" at all times for his band and never fainting in the most screwed-up moments in his history, managing to come back little by little without stopping recording and touring, always offering good music and impressive live performances in his performances, until the success and recognition that we all know today.
It will be charismatic this guy who last year, still with his entire career with Saxon at 69 years old, released his first solo album, a crack and clear example that life gives you some cards and that if you play well you can turn it around. the game, you always have to fight for dreams.
Congratulations Biff and thank you very much for the legacy and moments you bring to Rock.

Javier Barba Vallejo
