Today’s review is of Brazilian Heavy Metal band Metalomaniacs’ new album.
The album is really diverse, spanning from Neoclassical with virtuous solos (like on the album’s intro Metalomaniacs II) to Thrash Metal (like on “Into Hellfire”) to Alternative Rock (like on “Hold You”) to pure Hard Rock (like on “Rock Isn’t Dead” or “I’m So Cool”). The mix is pretty odd, even if everything is focused in Heavy Metal, but it definitely makes the album anything but monotonous.
While the constant solos truly display talent, the main riffs aren’t quite as great, and they don’t really surprise much when being heard. Nonetheless, those parts that remind us of Yngwie Malmsteen are pretty sweet to hear. Also notably, the vocal performance lacks some strength, it is usually a poor and plain performance that weakens the songs, maybe something with more modulations would fit better, since it almost seems as if the singer was talking and not singing (take for instance “They Left Us All Behind”).
Overall the release is decent, but it has its flaws that drain the energy that would be possible to show with this line-up. With some hard work on future albums, the band may become interesting.
I recommend this to fans of Heavy Metal, Alternative Rock, Hard Rock, Neoclassical Metal and Thrash Metal. My rating is of 7,5/10.
