Today’s review is of Canadian Heavy Metal band Boneyard’s album “Oathbreaker”.
The band highly reminds us of the beginning of the NWOBHM, kind of in the style of bands like Samson or Thunderstick that are also firmly rooted in Hard Rock, a style that is also vastly featured in this release, with the songs oscillating between both styles. Some songs like “Fates Warning” may tend more towards Heavy Metal, while others like “Monster” are more Hard Rock.
Besides the flagrant solos and basic rhythms, the band also features a feminine vocal performance that sort of brings some reminder of 70’s Rock in the singing style. While most tracks are pretty enjoyable, the whole album feels as if it’s too long, and with the suppression or shortening of some tracks a more dynamic full-length would’ve been achieved. Despite that, this is a pretty decent record and Boneyard may be an interesting band to check out.
I recommend this album to fans of NWOBHM and 70’s and 80’s Hard Rock. My rating is of 8/10.
