Today’s review is of Finnish Black Death Metal band Proscription’s debut album.
Getting the most gruesome dissonances of Death Metal and combining it with the most misanthropic Black Metal chaos, this album is a dark offering bathed in naught. While usually having the average tempo for the style, they also have a talent keeping it slow, almost doomy, which gets very well complimented with the percussions, like on “Radiant Midnight”.
This dissonant album is plagued with good riffs beneath a vocal performance that tends highly towards Death Metal but that still maintains hints of Black Metal. Probably one of the first bands that come to mind while hearing this may be Necrophobic, but while several similarities arise, the concept of these songs is also slightly different.
The songs that I highlight are “I, The Burning Son” and “To Reveal The Words Without Words”, where their paradoxical dissonance becomes most beautifully apparent. I recommend this album to fans of Black Death Metal, Black Metal and Death Doom Metal, and my rating is of 9/10.
