GREENMACHINE – D.A.M.N.(Review by Varg The Mighty)

If you only listen to the music without the vocals (which may not be that difficult with all the instrumental bits it has), this band may seem like your typical stoner band, in the style of Saint Vitus, Sleep or The Sword but with a really dirty sound. But once you hear Monzawa’s vocals everything changes.
The voice on these songs has absolutely nothing to do with the style of the music, for this isn’t the sleepy voice of some high singer, but the demented shrieks worthy of a grindcore band. Oddly, this curious combination seems really good for the sonic madness of the album.
D.A.M.N. becomes even more interesting and fun to listen when you analyse the recording quality plagued with feedback in the style of Infernö and the sudden ending of most songs, especially of “Cunt Maniac”. Even if you don’t like this kind of quality, behind all the mayhem the composition is really good, much better than most saner approaches to the genre.
This album was a great way to start a decade-long career, and if this band had been of America or Europe they would have probably started a whole new musical style. They are definitely worthy of much more attention and this album is definitely recommended if you’re in the mood for strange music.
